Fed — Jackson Hole opens with several officials pressing the case for a rate hike, ahead of Chair Warsh's Friday keynote. On day one (27 August) of the Kansas City Fed's Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium ("Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy"), Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack — a dissenter at July's FOMC meeting — said "now is the time to act," arguing inflation has run above the 2% target for more than five years with no sign financial conditions are restrictive. Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid called inflation "still stubborn and still sticky" and said he does not know what the current 3.50%–3.75% federal funds target range "is restricting." Banxico — Quarterly Report raises 2026 growth outlook, pushes back inflation-target timeline. Presented 26 August, Mexico's Q2 2026 Quarterly Report raised the 2026 GDP growth estimate to 1.5% (from 1.1%; range 1.0%–2.0%) on stronger second-quarter activity, while pushing back the date headline inflation is seen returning sustainably to the 3% target to Q4 2027 (from Q2 2027). First-half-August annual headline inflation ran at 3.26%. Governor Victoria Rodríguez said the current 6.50% reference rate is "appropriate" for the challenges ahead and that there is no predetermined path for future adjustments; the rate has been on hold since May 2026.
