The Market Wrap.

At a glance: No S&P 500 company reports today, closing out a thin stretch on the calendar — Lennar’s after-the-close print from Wednesday is the only name to score against actuals this morning. This is the seasonal gap between reporting cycles: with Q2 season long wrapped and Q3 season still weeks out, only off-cycle fiscal reporters like Lennar have been on the tape this week, and even that roster is now empty. Look for the calendar to start filling back in as the broader group approaches its next reporting window.

Scorecard — reported since we last wrote

Lennar missed on both lines. EPS of $1.23 came in 4.5% below the $1.29 consensus we flagged yesterday, and revenue of $8.05B was 3.9% light — no line here where the shortfall is being offset elsewhere. The $1.23 print is also down 6.1% versus the $1.31 booked last quarter, another data point for the margin pressure builders have been absorbing to defend volume. The stock gave back 2.3% in the after-hours session, a reaction in line with the size of the miss rather than an outsized read-through.

EPS surprise and Rev. surprise = reported figure against the consensus we flagged in that edition; EPS vs prev.Q = reported EPS against the quarter before it, as a percentage difference. Reaction = the report-day session move; for after-close reporters whose next regular session has not traded yet, the post-market move on the report date, marked “AH”.
