Fed rate-hike odds more than double over the weekend as bitcoin gives back its Saturday bounce. Bitcoin touched $79,890 intraday Saturday before fading to $76,838 by Sunday's close (-0.56% day on day); ether underperformed, closing Sunday at $2,477 (-1.94%), with Solana off 2.5% to $99.25. Monday opened at $76,806.19, 0.6% below Sunday, before recovering above $77,600 through the New York morning. The driver: CME FedWatch-implied odds of a 25bp hike at Wednesday's September 16 FOMC decision jumped to roughly 86.5% by Monday morning from 69.4% on Friday — a sharp reversal from a market pricing cuts at the start of the year — as traders weigh Thursday and Friday's hot PPI/CPI prints against the still-open Clarity Act vote Tuesday. Coin-denominated bitcoin futures open interest fell 13.5% (from 321,497 BTC to 278,151 BTC) between September 3 and 11, per Santiment — the sharpest deleveraging since 2023, as traders pared exposure into two binary catalysts this week. Bitcoin ETFs' four-day outflow streak thins to a trickle as ether funds snap back hard. US spot bitcoin ETFs shed just $13.29m net on Friday, September 11 — the smallest of four consecutive outflow days that totaled roughly $463m since September 8, per Farside/SoSoValue data — while spot ether ETFs reversed sharply, pulling in $216m on the same day after Thursday's redemptions. Strategy skips bitcoin for a second straight week, leans on preferred-share buybacks instead. Michael Saylor's Strategy made no BTC purchases from September 8–13, holding at 845,050 BTC (cost basis $63.73bn); it instead repurchased $139.3m of its STRC preferred stock and raised the authorization on its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program from $1bn to $2bn, prioritizing preferred buybacks over fresh coin purchases while its separate $1bn common-stock authorization went unused. The industry — exchanges, miners & infrastructure
Coinbase and Moov open a stablecoin rail into 1,000+ US community banks and credit unions. Announced September 10, the partnership embeds Coinbase Developer Platform's custodial wallets and payments API into Moov's existing banking infrastructure, letting small banks offer stablecoin acceptance, settlement and payouts without building their own crypto stack — timed just ahead of Tuesday's Clarity Act vote, where stablecoin-deposit competition with community banks has been a live sticking point. A bridge bug lets an attacker mint 46 billion fake syBTC; real damage caps at $336,000. Symbiosis's BridgeV2 contract on BNB Chain was exploited on September 11 to mint roughly 46.1 billion synthetic syBTC tokens — over 2,000 times bitcoin's circulating supply — of which only about 4.39 wrapped BTC was actually sold on Uniswap. Symbiosis halted its native BTC routing (restoring bitcoin exchange via Chainflip and THORChain instead), recovered roughly 15 BTC, and let a 20% white-hat bounty deadline pass unclaimed on September 13; it is now offering the same cut for actionable recovery intelligence. Policy & regulation
Trump agrees to the toughest crypto ethics rules in US history, days before the Clarity Act's make-or-break vote. Senate Republicans released final text Monday incorporating over 120 Democrat-requested changes, including ethics language the White House accepted Sunday night that bars the President, Vice President, federal officials, judges and their spouses from issuing or sponsoring digital assets, and requires divestment or blind trusts for existing holdings — enforceable by both state attorneys general and the Justice Department. The revised bill also adds CFTC registration and anti-money-laundering duties for "non-decentralized finance transaction protocols." The Senate holds its cloture vote at 2:15pm ET Tuesday, needing 60 votes with Republicans holding 53 seats. Sen. Lummis (press release) · CryptoTimes
CFTC clears Singapore Exchange's bitcoin and ether perpetual futures for US institutions. The regulator authorized SGX under Regulation 48.10 (its foreign-board-of-trade framework), letting US institutional investors trade SGX's BTC and ETH perpetual contracts directly without a local entity; the exchange has processed $5.8bn in cumulative volume on the products since their November 2025 launch, with institutional client onboarding expected within one to two months. Canada's bank regulator says a tokenized deposit is still just a deposit. OSFI's September 10 statement confirms that representing a deposit as a blockchain token doesn't create a new legal product, clearing federally regulated banks to launch tokenized deposit products without a bespoke regulatory category — provided the token remains a par-redeemable claim on the issuing bank rather than a separate reserve pool, and existing prudential and consumer-protection rules still apply. The Chatter
The Kobeissi Letter (X, Sep 13–14): calls the repricing "extraordinary" — markets now see a base case of four Fed rate hikes by July 2027, versus four cuts priced at the start of 2026, a 200bp swing the desk frames as the most hawkish Fed expectations since the Fed began raising rates in March 2022, and the real risk hanging over bitcoin into Wednesday's decision. Forbes, via The Kobeissi Letter
Glassnode Research, BTC Market Pulse (Week 38): argues the market is absorbing sell pressure rather than breaking — spot, derivatives and ETF flows all lean to the sell side, yet leverage isn't unwinding and loss-taking stays contained, with bitcoin stalling just under a resistance band where cost-basis data, the liquidation map and institutional break-even levels converge. Glassnode Research
XWIN Research Japan (via CoinDesk, week of Sep 8): warns the Fed, ECB and Bank of Japan tightening together — last seen in 2006 — is bitcoin's clearest macro risk, arguing a stronger yen alongside rising US yields would speed the unwind of yen-funded carry trades and force a simultaneous de-risking across stocks and crypto; the desk is watching US yields, USD/JPY and ETF flows for the real test.
